Head's Up

Jane Camblin Background

Dr. Jane Camblin most recently held the position of Executive Director of the United Nations International School, a position she assumed in August, 2013. Prior to that, she was Head of the French American International School in San Francisco. Both are large, highly accredited K-12 institutions offering dynamic, challenging, academically rigorous programmes leading to the International or French Baccalaureate degrees.

Dr. Camblin holds an honours degree in English and Russian, from Bristol University, UK; a graduate degree from Sydney University, Australia, in teaching Theatre and English as a Second Language; and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Bilingual Education from Stanford University, USA. She has worked previously as a teacher, administrator and consultant in public and private schools in England, France, Monaco, Australia and the United States, and is a recipient of an SDB Outstanding Educator Fellowship Award (Johns Hopkins University) and a Klingenstein Fellowship (Columbia University). In July 2016, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws degree (JD) by Bristol University in recognition of her lifelong work in international education.

Dr. Camblin was a three-term elected Board member of the Council of International Schools (CIS), a membership organization representing the interests of hundreds of international schools around the world, and was the founding Chair of the Council of International Schools in the Americas (CIStA). She currently serves as Chair of the Foundation Board of Bristol University, and until January 2012 held an elected seat on the International Baccalaureate Heads Council, providing advice to the Executive Director of the IB Organization on strategic policy issues. Currently, Dr. Camblin also serves as Vice Chair of the Manhattan Guild of Independent Schools, as a Trustee of the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS), and sits on the Board of Governors of the Lycee International de Londres Winston Churchill.

In 2004, Dr. Camblin was named Chevalier des Palmes Academiques by the French Ministry of Education for her services to French culture and education as a dynamic and innovative visionary leader who believes fervently that an intellectually challenging international 21st century education emphasizing critical thinking, cross-cultural communication, and a strong appreciation of and respect for diversity in all its forms, is of utmost importance to the world in which we live.

Dr. Camblin welcomes you to CDNIS

The inside track from a current parent

We think CDNIS is great for making friends for life and getting involved with everything on offer. The teaching staff are excellent but it is the extra curricular activities that our children have taken so much from at CDNIS. Many happy memories made and so many opportunities to get involved in so many activities with supportive knowledgeable staff that bring out all the children’s hidden abilities and talents. It is a well known fact that students that graduate from CDNIS are well-rounded, extremely happy and confident, and go on to have very successful and satisfying lives in the community.

As parents we love...

  • The wide range of activities available to all – there are top quality performing arts opportunities with expert visiting musicians, amazing competitive sport programs which make use of the incredible school facilities, and the extracurricular activity program has a deep bench of additional language, STEM and academic extension opportunities
  • The use of technology to enhance learning and the educational experience – the school has an innovative technology program that includes underwater robotics challenges, google educational apps, a digital ambassadors program, a media club and much more
  • The encouragement of independence and risk-taking, enabling every student to reach their full potential – there are no limits on what a CDNIS student can achieve

As pupils we love...

  • Lunch! – there are lots of options, with specific menus for gluten free, vegan etc. and the whole school is nut-free
  • The support from teachers and all staff in all areas – teachers have a genuine passion for helping us and the school brings in subject specialists / experts to supplement when needed
  • The amazing friendships we've built. So many of us have been in the school since K1 which is a testament to how fantastic the school environment is and allowed incredibly deep bonds to form

What makes us different

CDNIS has been a leader in international education since its inception 30 years ago and is now widely recognized as one of the world’s most innovative and cutting-edge institutions. Our future-ready programmes promote academic excellence, the development of character, and strong engagement both locally and globally. We are fully committed to the integration of Chinese language and culture with the Ontario curriculum and International Baccalaureate programmes, and are the only school outside of Canada where students graduate with both the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and the IB Diploma. Post-secondary institutions around the world recognize these two distinct diplomas for their rigorous assessment, and we are proud that CDNIS students graduate with both. Along with the focus on academics, CDNIS places a high degree of importance on the development of the whole person, which is supported by an exceptionally rich extra-curricular programme. Students are encouraged to maintain a balance between academics and extra-curricular opportunities, preparing them to thrive at the top post-secondary institutions they are admitted to around the world.
